چکیده
Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are amino alcohols, often esterified with mono- or dicarboxylic acids, found in several plant families, including the Asteraceae. used for defence against generalist invertebrate herbivores. However, specialist herbivores that able to sequester PAs from host species derive a number of benefits these compounds. This study investigated and leaves roots southern African biotype (SAB) Chromolaena odorata different regions habitats South Africa, without herbivore Pareuchaetes insulata. Alkaloid N-oxides were initially detected leaf samples by Mayor's Dragendorff's reagents later thin-layer chromatography on root detection successive treatment acetic anhydride Ehrlich's reagent. Two pyrrolizidine alkaloids, rinderine stereoisomer intermidine, isolated reduced extract SAB C. identified Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry. The structures configuration compounds confirmed chemical spectroscopic methods, especially one-dimensional 1H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance analysis. known be arctiine moths find their sequestered mating purposes, furthermore, render lepidopterans unpalatable predators. is first detect presence odorata.

15 صفحه اولChromolaena odorata (L.) : An Overview
Chromolaena odorata is a species of flowering shrub in the sunflower family, Asteraceae. It is native to North America, from Florida and Texasto Mexico and the Caribbean, and has been introduced to tropical Asia, west Africa, and parts of Australia. It is used as a traditional medicine in Indonesia. The young leaves are crushed, and the resulting liquid can be used to treat skin wounds. Accordi...
متن کاملFrequent gain and loss of pyrrolizidine alkaloids in the evolution of Senecio section Jacobaea (Asteraceae).
Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) of the macrocyclic senecionine type are secondary metabolites characteristic for most species of the genus Senecio (Asteraceae). These PAs are deterrent and toxic to most vertebrates and insects and provide plants with a chemical defense against herbivores. We studied the PA composition of 24 out of 26 species of Senecio section Jacobaea using GC-MS. The PA profile...

Chromolaena odorata (L.) King & Robinson (Asteraceae: Eupatorieae), a shrub of neotropical origin, is a primary threat to the conservation of biodiversity, and to pastoral and crop agriculture and forestry in the subtropical regions of South Africa. It invades much of the sugarcane growing areas in KwaZulu-Natal and thus impacts negatively on the South African sugar industry. The plant presents...
متن کاملPolyphyletic origin of pyrrolizidine alkaloids within the Asteraceae. Evidence from differential tissue expression of homospermidine synthase.
The evolution of pathways within plant secondary metabolism has been studied by using the pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) as a model system. PAs are constitutively produced by plants as a defense against herbivores. The occurrence of PAs is restricted to certain unrelated families within the angiosperms. Homospermidine synthase (HSS), the first specific enzyme in the biosynthesis of the necine ba...
